Strep: Sore throat doesn't always mean strep, but it certainly can be. Usually, there are other symptoms like difficulty swallowing, bad breath, fever and even swollen glands. Less common is pain referred to the ears. Best to get it checked out and get treated if it is strep. There is a rapid step test available now that is used regularly to help us know if it's strep or not
