No pain when removed: The wick was put in because you must have an outer ear infection with lot of swelling. the pain was because of infection and swelling. Wick will permit the pus to be drained out and reduce infection. When the infection is gone, the swelling will also be gone, opening the ear canal. The wick will automatically come out or will have to be taken out, but there should not be pain in either case.

Less likely: The ear wick is used for a serious otitis externa AS the swelling goes down the need for the ear wick is less. If the drops and antibiotics have done the job it should hurt very little.
