Doctor can evaluate: The doctor who is doing the follow-up visit(s) after the initial care of the injury can check to see if the numbness is a normal amount of numbness. Anytime there is a cut in the skin, whether by surgery or trauma or a combination of both, some of the nerves in the top layer of skin will get cut or damaged... thus leading to a numb area around the wound.
