A member asked:

Is butalbital good for migraines or chronic headaches? is it a dangerous drug with a lot of side effects?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not in my opinion: Butalbital is present in a long list of migraine medications, most of which contain acetaminophen, and often combined with codeine (Fioricet (acetaminophen butalbital and caffeine) and many generics). It is a barbiturate that has strong potential to cause physical dependency and addiction, as well as serious problems with overdose. There are many better drugs to both prevent (verapamil, beta blockers) and treat (sumatriptan etc).
