Can swollen lymph nodes be associated with an std? if so how soon can the lymph nodes become swollen after the person has been infected?

Could be: There are lymph nodes all over the body. The ones that monitor the genital region are located in the right and left groin areas. You would usually feel swollen tender nodes if they are indeed infected.

Herpes, syphilis: The main STDs that cause enlarged/inflamed lymph nodes in the groin are syphilis and initial genital herpes. In both, there usually are obvious genital sores as well. Herpes sores and nodes usually appear in a few days; usually 2-6 weeks for syphilis. Most inflamed nodes in the groin are not due to any STD. See a doctor ASAP if you have groin swelling, genital sores, or other suspicion of STD.
