Patellar instability: Every time your knee bends, the knee-cap (patella) glides, hopefully smoothly, upward along a groove in the femur. If the support structures of the knee are weak or loose, it can shift to one side then "pop" back into the groove and cause discomfort. This can be diagnosed by a primary care doctor or orthopedist, and fortunately it can be fixed with physical therapy directed at knee support.
