Many possibilities: Sports-related knee pain can be due to a variety of factors. Anterior pain could be bruising of the patella if you are landing directly on the kneecap. Tendinitis just above or below the kneecap is very common. If your knee is buckling inward during your dives in volleyball, that stress can aggravate ligaments such as the MCL. Locking/popping can mean meniscus or ACL injury.
