Ice/compression: while the injury is new ice is better along with compression(ace bandage) to get the swelling down and pain managed. Ibuprofen can help as well. If you still have significant pain after a few days see a foot/ankle specialist

Foot injury: If you can't put weight on it go get an X-ray. If you can put weight on it then try to rest it, ice it, elevate it and take over the counter medication like ibuprofen or Aleve (naproxen) as directed. If it's not getting significantly better in 3 days go get an X-ray.
