Additional workup: I am presuming this was seen on an Ultrasound. The next step would usually be to an Ear Nose and Throat surgeon to do a biopsy as they are the specialty typically operating on the thyroid. There is another test called a thyroid uptake scan used to assess nodules but because there is only one and it is large enough to biopsy not likely needed. Findings on biopsy decide if the nodule needs removal.
