Depends: By swelling head, do you mean you have a hard, tender lump on your head from hitting it on something? If so, this is called a hematoma and is a collection of blood, or something akin to a bruise, between the scalp and the skull bones. Depending on the size of the hematoma, it will slowly disappear over a period of one to two weeks.

Days at least: It'll take days- and longer if you have a hematoma (a collection of blood under the skin or muscle). If you have a hematoma, the bruising could become extensive before it resolves.
