Cold sores: are caused by the herpes virus and can be transmitted via saliva. Usually the lesions are less or not at all contagious when scabbed over. Tingling may be a sign you are developing a "sore" but you can`t be certain until you see the lesion. Cold sores can be treated with ointment and oral medication for more severe cases.
