How common is to order the d dimer test if you have shortness of breath and cough? chest ct and echocardiogram was clear.

D-dimer test: when positive means that you have a thrombus somewhere in your body. If it is negative, it is very good evidence that you do not have pulmonary embolism. It is a very useful test very commonly ordered when a thromboembolic disorder such as DVT or PE is suspected.
