At least 4-6 weeks: Give it time... Usually 4-6 weeks. The medication works by increasing the serotonin (neurotransmitter related to mood/anxiety) in your brain. This is why you may have specific side effects (headache, nausea, fatigue). Your brain then makes additional receptors to use the "extra" serotonin. The side effects tend to subside and you will notice an improvement in your symptoms.

SSRI's sometimes: take 14 to 21 days to begin to alter mood. This is different from the initial "rush" some patients get, which they mistake for the a change in mood. Anxiety may or may not abate with SSRI's, but if that is your case be patient. Some studies state that this class of meds sometimes take literally months to achieve good results, far longer than patients and docs will wait before trying others.

Time: This is unfortunate, since your question suggests you are impatient (understandably). The truth is that you need to reach a dose that works for you, but what that dose is, is not known. It may be your current dose, but you may need two or three times your current dose, and you have to try the lower doses first. This can take weeks: but even then it takes 2 to 4 weeks to work.
