Variable: How long pain medications are prescribed after acl reconstruction is variable. I have some patients that take medications only a few days. I have others that need medications as long as a few weeks. Respecting the need for rest, ice, compression and elevation for the first few days after the surgery helps reduce your need for pain medications. Antiinflammatory medications are a helpful adjunct.
