A member asked:

If taking an ssri for depression and latuda (lurasidone) for bipolar depression would not latuda (lurasidone) lessen the serotonin from the ssri making it less effective?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not necessarily: Sometimes- ( not always ) both meds are needed in Bipolar Depression. THe SSRI could address the serious depressive component and the Latuda (lurasidone) might address the anxiety or even psychotic elements which can be present in both phases of bipolar. Sometimes a mood stabilizer is also needed. Obviously the patient and the psychiatrist have to work together to figure out the best treatment plan.
