A member asked:

If your bile ducts are partially obstructed, or your gallbladder is partially obstructed, could the lack of bile result in less fat absorption, and if so could this result in weight-loss, and belly bloating?

Bile duct obstructed: More serious is why is the bile duct obstructed? Weight loss and bloating can be from the process that is causing the bile duct obstruction, gallstones? autoimmune ? mass at the head of the pancreas? .The bile can back up into the liver/blood and causes yellow skin/ eyes- jaundice, fluid in the abdomen, ascites from pressure. In general, yes: Because of changes in fat absorption, the principle symptoms of bile duct obstruction are nausea, light-colored stools and dark urine. But weight loss can happen (possibly more because of nausea and vomiting) and bloating does occur. Blood tests, especially liver function tests, suggest the diagnosis but ultrasound is often helpful to visualize gall stones; CT scanning is often needed or even MRCP

Possible: But you will likely have intense itching as well with bile duct obstruction. Since there are many more common reasons for weight loss and bloating, I suggest that you contact your family doctor to get examined first.
