Don't feed his worry: Five foot nine inches is a perfectly normal height. If you buy into your son's neurosis that somehow there is something wrong with him because he is not taller, you are contributing to his poor self esteem. This is called "body dysmorphia" and teens are notoriously susceptible to this condition which can seriously impact their socialization and ruin their sense of well-being.

Help him accept it: Unless he entered puberty late, your son is done or within a half inch or so of his final height. No diet, exercises, or specialized treatment can get him past his genetic height. For most males this is the average of both parents height plus 2.5 inches.
