I have a 10 year old son. i have been trying to get pregnant for five years and have been a very heavy drinker for five years as well. i recently stopped drinking, in january 2013 but i can't get pregnant. what should i do?

Go To Doctor: There is absolutely nothing we can do for you here about this. In the U.S. We recommend fertility testing after six months of failed attempts to get pregnant. It sounds like you are well due for this type of medical evaluation. Congratulations for being sober.

Infertility: Congratulations on stopping drinking excessively. Regarding your attempts to get pregnant, we diagnose infertility after just 12 months of attempts w/o success. So it's best that you go see a reproductive endocrinologist immediately. Your partner will need to get sperm count/semen analysis, too. And you should start taking prenatal vitamins now to lower risk for neural tube defects. Good luck!

Please see your doc: Congrats on stopping your drinking! i would see your doctor with your partner. There are many reasons that one cannot get pregnant. You may have medical conditions either directly or indirectly related to the drinking that may be contributing to this. It could also be related to a health problem of your partner. I would certainly seek medical attention for this. Take care.
