A member asked:

Knuckles got some red swelling, she used candle wax to decrease swelling and it helps. is it ok? what are the causes? should it be a concern?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Causes of swelling?: There are many possible causes of swelling, pain and/or redness of the knuckles. These include overuse, sprains, arthritis (wear & tear and rheumatoid are the most common), infection and injury. Candle wax may provide temporary relief by warming the joints, but, due to the high risk of burns, in my mind, it's not OK. If your arthritic joints are bothering you, by all means, consult a doctor.
