Not necessarily: ANY continued use of alcohol in someone with alcoholic liver disease (alcoholic hepatitis, fibrosis or cirrhosis) is going to make it worse. While cutting down might help a little, it is not likely to completely resolve unless he completely stops drinking. If he cannot stop drinking completely, he should get professional help in doing so.
