Some risks: The first risk is the donation time: infection, internal organ damage, hernia, or even death...Mostly determined by the surgeon. The next consideration is your potential risk for esrd. If you are not obese, not hypertensive, not diabetic, don't have recurrent infections or kidney stones and your father's disease isn't inherited then your risk is small; then long term you'll like get hypertension.

Possible later risk: Most healthy patients who donate a kidney see no difference in their health throughout their life. However, after donation, you have given away half of your functional kidney mass. As you age, you have less back up as your remaining kidney naturally loses function. If your father developed renal failure, you may also have a similar risk (genetically) and may be more likely to end up on dialysis.
