Dependent Congestion: Greetings. The congestion in your nose and ear is related to normal nasal physiology. The structures in your nose called turbinates will swell with blood. Since you are lying down, more blood will be in your nose since you are laying not standing. Gravity will cause the downward side of your nose and ear to have more blood thus causing more blockage. It's like the sand in an hour glass.
