When your immune : System goes down or when you're sick, cold sores (due to a viral infection /herpes simplex 1) would flare up . Ask your dr for a prescription of acyclovir/zovirax or Famvir or Valtrex (valacyclovir) when it flares up for faster healing.

Antibiotic ointment: I suggest Bacitracin ointment 2-3 times daily. Get some prescription for antivirus ( eg valtrex) and start at first sign of blister the next time as the blister will be smaller, heal faster.
