A member asked:

I recently scored a 46 on a ca 125 screening and am afraid that i may have cancer. is that a 'normal' range for someone with endodemetriosis?

Maybe.: Depends on who is doing the talking. Experts disagree on normals especially in that range. Could be normal. But i suspect that with a complex ovarian lesion and a mildly elevated ca125 that the next step is biopsy.

Why was it done???: The only patients in whom this is done as "screening" are those with very high risk for ovarian cancer (like brca mutation carriers) who want to keep their ovaries. Even in those patients, there are no data to say it improves their outcome. In a normal risk patient and out of context it's a wasted test. 46 is slightly high but can be due to many things, malignant or not (including endometriosis).
