Oral surgeon: Having your procedure done by an oral surgeon will help with all your concerns. You can have IV sedation. the oral surgeon will counsel you about postop diet and everything concerning the procedure. He/she will prescribe pain medication. Much better done in the hands of an oral surgeon.

Of course!: MOST IMPORTANT: Have at least two opinions regarding the absolute need to do this as you are very young to consider this. Adequate anesthesia will be given for the procedure. After care is ice packs/cold compresses and, very possibly prescription, pain killers. A soft or liquid (milk, ice cream, mashed potatoes, pudding) diet is advised. Gums heal in 3-4 weeks; dentures either immediately or soon!

Please discuss this: with the oral surgeon who will be doing the surgery. If you are pregnant the options will be more restricted.

Many Questions...: ... and varied answers. You will be made comfortable during and after your procedure. Analgesics will be prescribed if necessary. Regarding eating, no one without teeth has starved. Soft foods, liquid diets until you determine how you want your missing teeth replaced. Discuss this with your dentist.

Not a dentist: My bet is that you will be on a liquid and/or soft diet after your extraction. It is also very likely that you will be given pain medications after your procedure. As far as what to expect- that's a conversation to have with the doctor or dentist performing the procedure. Best of health to you!

Extractions: i hope you will be having an immediate denture made so you will will have teeth placed when you have your extractions. The extracting dentist will give you medication for pain. Make sure you follow the post op instructions given. You will need to follow a soft diet for a while after the extractions and gradually work up to more normal foods as you heal. Good luck.

Before and After: Before: address any questions regarding your planned anesthesia (any type) or surgery to your surgeon directly. After removal of multiple teeth you will receive optimum pain management. Your diet will be limited to liquids and soft foods that are comfortable for you. Good luck.

After the procedure: Eat: Soft foods...think yogurt and smoothies. You should be comfortable with ibuprofen. Some docs prefer to write narcotic pain killers. PS...If you start getting extreme pain after 3+days...you may have a dry socket. Go into your dentist for relief.

Treatment plan: Need a treatment plan. If you feel confident that you do not need a second opinion, speak to the dentist about possibly saving any teeth. Are you planning on immediate placement of a prosthesis? Are implants involved? These are all valid questions which should be addressed prior to the inception of any treatment.
