Ureteral stones: Stones in the kidney can be associated with chronic infection. When stones are in the ureter, especially when they're close to the bladder, they can cause bladder irritative symptoms which can mimic cystitis

Uti/ kidney stones: Kidney stones can definitely cause UTI's and life threatening kidney infections. They can also cause, when fragments are excreted, urethritis or inflammation of the urethral mucosa that may cause symptoms as described. Abdominal pain, persistence of symptoms, fever, nausea/ vomiting among others, would be alarm signs for a possible evolving infection.
