Long term Retin A (tretinoin): Retin a (tretinoin) can cause birth defects so please don't get pregnant while on Retin-A however it does not thin out the skin like steroid creams. It can cause redness of the skin.

Retin A (tretinoin) and skin: Retin a (tretinoin) improves skin when used longterm by increasing the turnover of the skin cells of the epidermis (top layer of the skin), reducing sun damage and stimulating collagen production in the dermis. Retin a (tretinoin) does thin the epidermis by decreasing the number of dead skin cells on the surface. So a sunscreen must be used daily and skin needs more gentle care with retin a (tretinoin).
