Edema: It can be related to your heart not being able to keep up and the fluid backs up into your legs. You should also make sure some has checked your thyroid hormone panel. HYPOTHYROIDISM can also present with edema. The weight gain is from the fluid retention. You need further diagnostic tests and cut the salt out of your diet.

Weight: You need to discuss your status with your doctors. After leg/hip surgeries some people do get edema. If exercise falls off weight will increase. There are possibilities for helping these things but not without really knowing the patient. Your doctors should be able to advise you.
