Does't hurt long: Lidocaine anesthetic shots do not hurt that long unless there is muscle cramping associated with it or nerve injury is involved. For deep cleaning chances of nerve injury are minimum. Follow warm salt water rinsing to reduce muscle cramping

Worried...: probably not. Injection may have passed through a muscle, teeth/jaw may be sensitive from the procedure. Really can't tell the extent of your periodontal problems, but understand that it takes time to heal. Speak to your treating dentist for further guidance.
