Toothache: See a local dentist to evaluate that problematic tooth and to determine why it hurts and if treatment is indicated. In the meantime take the OTC pain meds you might use for a headache until you can be seen. Feel better soon...

Depends.: The "best medicine" is to treat the cause of the toothache. You may need antibiotics and dental work, but you need some treatment besides pain meds alone to save your tooth. Ibuprofen or tylenol (acetaminophen) for now until you can see a doctor or dentist soon is okay.

See a dentist BEST: A tooth pain won't go away without treatment and the infection may spread to your jaw, cheeks, sinus and to other areas of your head and neck. OTC pain medications such as NSAIDs or Tylenol, (acetaminophen) can all reduce the pain slightly, but none of these treats the cause. Visit a dentist ASAP for definitive diagnosis and treatment.

Telephone: Toothache usually means infection, and infection can spread through circulatory system to jaws, kidneys, bladder, heart, liver, etc. OTC pain killers can reduce severity of pain for a short time, during which infection spreads. Antibiotics can limit spread of infection until discontinued, then infection comes roaring back. Best medicine is telephone, call your a Dentist for appointment ASAP.
