Powerful events...: Can have long term effects on our mind - even if it is not very adaptive, it is our body's way of protecting us. Unpleasant feelings of anxiety and other physical symptoms can develop when memories or other triggers are present. Would be interested to know more about the therapy you completed - certain types of therapy are better for addressing these types of fear and anxiety.

Need a shrink: You would be dead if you were actually infected with rabies that long ago. Why you remain obsessed with the event and or lack of treatment is beyond what we can offer from this site.Find a therapist and sort out your hang ups so you can move on with your life. This is no worse than someone phobic about midgets.

Get therapy: You recognize this is unrealistic. You showed insight an courage already. A short course of cognitive-behavioral therapy with you working in a therapeutic alliance should end this and probably free up some other stuff and make you happier and more effective.
