High bilirubin..: ..in the blood causes jaundice..the yellowish discoloration of the skin, mucous membranes and whites of the eyes. The rise in bilirubin is not lethal; it can be very uncomfortable with severe itching. This can be treated. But you are correct; this is typically something that occurs late in the course of metastatic liver cancer. Death likely results through a combination of many factors. Take care.

CRC: The rising bilirubin itself will not be lethal, but it may soon make things very uncomfortable and itchy. In children, a very high bili can cause motor damage, but this is not a risk in adults, so it will really be the pruritis of jaundice that bothers most. CRC causes death usually from wasting, obstruction and infection. So keep the nutrition going and avoid infection risks. Do the best u can.
