What are the major early signs of lung cancer?

8 doctors weighed in across 4 answers

Lung cancer: One of the challenges with lung cancer is that in early stages it causes no symptoms. Persistent cough, bloody sputum and a host of other symptoms might be present, but very non-specific. Best screening is CT-based testing, but that is expensive for general population. Reducing risk factors, especially smoking, are critical.

Usually none: Weight loss, cough, coughing up blood, just feeling bad. Most often, lung cancer is already incurable when it becomes symptomatic. You're a young man. Hopefully you will not take up smoking, or if you smoke, you will be able to quit. Do this, and lung cancer becomes much less likely.

Unfortunately: For early stage lung cancer, usually there are limited symptoms. That's why many diagnosis of lung cancer are found at later stages where patients have symptoms of cough(including bringing up blood), chest pain, shortness of breath, weight loss/decreased appetite, or symptoms related to lung cancer spreading elsewhere like bone pain.
