Yes trauma is both: emotionally and physically exhausting. In addition to taking time to rest after a traumatic event, it is also recommended to work with a trauma specialist as soon as possible to help prevent PTSD from occurring. EMDR has techniques for within a month of a trauma and for after a month. Find a psychologist trained in this area and get help as soon as possible.

Give yourself time: Yes, this is normal. The body and mind can feel enormously fatigued, possibly from the massive release of stress hormones (cortisol / adrenaline). In Medicine and Psychology we are learning to notice and be attentive to physical and mental needs. For instance, if the body feels tired, let it rest. If the mind is weary, do something restorative. Remember your social self, connect, laugh talk.
