I usually take ativan prn (need basis) but my doc wants to swtich me to xanax (alprazolam) prn is 24 hours in between taking an ativan and taking a xanax (alprazolam) ok?

It takes 3- 4 days: for the ativan (lorazepam) totally eliminated from your system because the half life of ativan (lorazepam) is 12-16 hours.

Yes: that is a sufficient time frame, your doctor should have told you how to switch. You could have started the Xanax (alprazolam) when 6-8 hours after your last ativan if you needed one.

Ativan, Xanax (alprazolam): I commend you for using AtivanPRN. Both Ativan and Xanax (alprazolam) are Benzodiazepines for treatment of Anxiety. 24 hours in between taking an Ativan and taking a Xanax (alprazolam) is ok as the effect of Ativan lasts for about 6 hours. Do following to decrease use of medication for Anxiety: •Therapy •Breathing and Music Relaxation •Visual Imagery of national Parks •Meditation, •Yoga •Tai Chi
