Wondering how to go about asking my doctor to try me on xanax (alprazolam) instead of ativan since i have to take too much ativan to and it still doen't work fully?

Doesn't work fully?: I am wondering what you mean by that. What are you hoping Ativan or xanax (alprazolam) will fully treat? Bipolar disorder should be treated with a mood stabilizer. There are various kinds and most will help a great deal with anxiety as well. Chronic anxiety is best treated with meds other than xanax (alprazolam), which often creates more anxiety when it leaves your system than you may have had to begin with !
