Yes: There are different patterns of abnormality on a mammogram--some of which are worrisome, some are not. Some abnormalities can show up on an ultrasound, some can't. An ultrasound is best used to further evaluate specific abnormalities to help ascertain whether a biopsy is needed, but it is not a good screening tool.
