VERY: Depression is unfortunately very common. During their lifetime, about 20% of adults will be affected by a mood disorder needing treatment, and 8% will have a major depressive episode. It's twice as common in women as men. If you have a 1st-degree relative with depression, your risk increases 1.5-3 times over the general population. Depression is the fourth highest cause of disability worldwide.
