Toetal Pain.: Well it sounds like there is moderate damage to at least some soft tissue. Questions remain, however, whether or not the nail root or any of the toe bones are also damaged. The black discoloration will remain for sometime and by dissolving or by sliding out as the nail grows. You may or may not loose the nail, only time will tell. If the root was damaged the nail may become distorted. X-ray for FX
