Immobilization: will help your finger to heal better. Use of the finger and the fact that hands are usually in a dependent position contribute to continued swelling. Wrap the finger with lots of padding or use a finger splint to immobilize the finger; take the dressing or splint off 3-4 times a day and move the finger so that it doesn't get stiff. Elevate your hand above the level of the heart as much as possible

Cut Finger: Continuous long standing swelling long after a healing cut should be seen by your primary care physician. This seems to indicate something is still wrong.
