Traumatic : Trauma is the first answer but there are other possibilities. You could have an allergy, you could have a risk for swelling, you could have arthritis but an evaluation by your doctor will help clarify this.

Inflammation likely: Swelling suggests inflammation or injury, and tingling suggests nerve irritation. If no direct injury was involved, likely have a combination of inflammation from overuse along with nerve irritation from direct pressure from the knife handle. Best to have it evaluated face-to-face by a physician.
