Generally: You should follow the advice of the doc who prescribed your meds. If you have a relatively empty stomach you should feel the maximal effects of the dose within the hour and could consider taking another for symptom relief, but again you should consult with the prescriber.

What did the doc say: If the doctor said take as needed then, you should ask them what THEY MEANT with that instruction. I would say that if you are new to the drug then, I would recommend you not take it any more than once daily for the time being until you've checked with your doctor. More than that may cause you to be dysfunctional since I don't know anything else about you except you've got a BRAIN LESION.
