Hemochromatosis?: Blood test and family history may not be enough. Liver biopsy with iron staining may be needed to make a definitive diagnosis of hemochromatosis. Other possibilites of elevated serum ferritin are Liver disease, due to alcohol, viral hepatitis; chronic infections, hemolytic anemia, anorexia nervosa, and some drugs.
