Just big boned.: The girth of bones is a result of the action of osteoclasts and osteoblasts. While the osteoclasts in the medullary canal of bones are busy enlarging the inside diameter of the bone, the osteoblasts in the periosteum are busy enlarging the outside of the bone. This loss/ gain ratio change throughout life thus ending growth and continuing an never ending remodeling of bone during your life.
