CBT: Seek a cognitive-behavioral therapist who specializes in phobias. One method they use is systematic desensitization which slowly and incrementally brings the person closer and closer to the thing they are afraid of in slow, graduated steps that help make the anxiety more tolerable.

Try guided imagery: During the procedure - close eyes and picture yourself in a pleasant situation ie on a beach , floating in the water , with friend you enjoy being with etc. After you are comfortable with procedure on occasional look for a moment then close your eyes with good image. Increase time eyes are open. etc. Don't worry about this difficulty. Some doctors don't like to have their own blood drawn.

Desensitization is a: common approach to specific phobias. Treatment by a psychologist involves using imagery to approach the experience of what you fear, without actually physically engaging it. Work your way closer and closer in your mind while you also learn to maintain a calm demeanor. There are lots of techniques that aid the process, but you need a skilled guide and some time and patience.
