Sedation: If a person has a fear of the needlestick associated with a blood draw for laboratory tests, an oral sedative agent (benzodiazepine) can be administered to reduce anxiety prior to the draw. If the fear is associated with learning the lab results, counselling is needed to place things in perspective.

CBT: Seek a cognitive-behavioral therapist who specializes in phobias. One method they use is systematic desensitization which slowly and incrementally brings the person closer and closer to the thing they are afraid of in slow, graduated steps that help make the anxiety more tolerable.
