Dequervain's: You may have a tendonitis of the thumb due to repetitive motion of the thumb. There is treatment including wearing a thumb spica splint, take anti-inflammatories, and even steroid injections. Please see your doc and get his or her opinion. Happy healing and good luck.

Probably arthritis: You don't mention your age, but this is a very frequent area for osteoarthritis, especially if it is your dominant hand. Of course an injury could cause this and could also cause arthritis to happen earlier than usual. Try using a thumb immobilizer, soak the thumb in warm water or put on a glove when it hurts, use acetaminophen for pain and avoid doing anything which seems to make it hurt worse.
