Your question is...: ...presumably, do I need an x-ray? Well, if pain is "increasing massively" despite RICE treatent, and especially if this is the place you had the fractured growth plate in the past, I would say yes.

ER: Don't mess around with this --- get to the ER for evaluation and x-rays. Waiting will only allow inflammation to worsen and prolong the recovery. If fractured, the faster you get treatment the better. Get going and get this checked and treated. Good Luck. Have someone take you.
