Sex with condom: Am not sure the reason your doctor wanted you to refrain from sex, but if it was fear of reinfection then you should definitely have your bf use a condom, and in addition he should be treated because he either gave this to you or you got it from someone else and have given it to him. Also make sure you have been tested for other STDs. If you have one you may have more than one. Be careful.
