Gritty Granuloma: Granulomatous disease, like other autoimmune inflammatory conditions, can leave residual "scarring" in the areas of involvement. If located in the pulmonary tissue these areas can become calcified over time and appear as "densities" on a chest x-ray similar to what bone might look like. The findings are similar in appearance on a CT which is a "super" x-ray and provides more detail.

Scars, sort of: It usually means that you have some calcium deposits that the radiologist thinks might be due to old healed tuberculosis or related disease. But ask the doctor who ordered the study to explain, as s/he may be looking for other things and you need to stay involved in your own diagnosis and care. Needless to say, if you smoke, please STOP! And best of luck to you.
